IAS officer is an administrative officer who is appointed by the President of India after passing the Civil Services Exam. The Civil Services examination is the Toughest exam in India. An IAS officer is responsible for the administrative command of a district. The Role of IAS officer is primarily to work for the betterment & development of the respective districts under their Jurisdiction. And,thus, known as the head of the district or district collector.


IAS Role & Responsibilities


The Roles & Responsibilities of an IAS officer are very sensitive. It demands dedication, effort & selflessness towards the people. An IAS officer deals with high work pressure. They have to work without seeing the clock since they have the responsibility of an entire district & the people living in it on them. We have figured out the following as the Duties of IAS officers:


* Primarily, IAS officers join a district on the sub-divisional level. They work for the development of a subdivision as the sub-divisional magistrate. They look after general administration, healthcare, law & order of that particular sub-division.

* IAS officers are responsible for any law & order situation in their Jurisdiction. Therefore, make sure that no such Situation arises.

* The fair implementation of different government schemes is the central focus of an IAS officer. They also plan development schemes at the district levels that the people could be benefited.

* IAS officers also play a crucial role at both center & the state level. They get appointed as secretaries who deals as head of administrative affairs at the central & state level.

* At both center & state, there are various Departments & Ministries where IAS officers play an Important role in the formulation & implementation of different policies & programs.

* At the state level, the Highest rank an IAS officer serves is as the Chief Secretary. The chief secretary is the prominent advisor to the chief minister on matters subjected to state administration.

* Likewise, the senior IAS positions at the center are - Cabinet secretary, Joint secretary, deputy secretary, directors &, etc. However, the highest position is of a cabinet secretary who acts as an advisor to the Prime Minister of India.


IAS Officer Minimum Eligibility Criteria


To be an IAS: the applicant must be 21 years old or above.

The applicant/candidate must hold Indian citizenship.

The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree From a recognized college or University.

The applicant must sit for the qualify the Civil Services Exam.

In the case of the general category, the applicant must appear for the civil services exam and must not be more than 32 years; for Schedule caste/ Schedule Tribe, it is 37.

Ideally, the candidate/applicant has to quality the exams in 6 attempts if the one appearing for the exam is from General Category. For SC/ST, there is no limit.
