JEE-Advanced Exam Eligibility Criteria

A specific percentage of candidates will be shortlisted from various categories on the basis of their performance in JEE Mains Exam 2022 -10% of 2,50,000 seats are reserved for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all.

Age Criteria

Candidates born on or after 1st October 1997 are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2022. However, Candidates belonging to SC/ST and PwD categories will be given an age relaxation of 5 years, they should have been born on or after 1st October,1992.


Limit of Attempts

The attempt limit for JEE-Advanced 2022 is a maximum of 2 times in 2 consecutive years.



JEE Advanced Exam Pattern 2022

Total Questions: JEE-Advanced exam consists of two compulsory papers - Paper-I and Paper-II. Both of the papers consist of 3 sections Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each paper has total of 54 questions, as each section constitutes 18 questions.

Maximum Marks: The marks weightage of each paper is 183 marks and the exam will be a total of 306 marks.

Duration of Exam: Candidates will get 3 hours to solve each paper. The total duration of the exam will be 6 hours.

Medium: The exam will be held in two languages: English & Hindi

Mode: JEE-Advanced is a computer-based test.

● Types of Questions: MCQs with the single correct answer, Single-word/digit integer answers, Numerical value answer

No. of questions: Each subject section of Paper I and Paper II will have 6 MCQs (3 marks each), 6 Single word/digit answers (4 marks each), and 6 Numerical value answers (4 marks each)


JEE Advanced Exam Pattern - Marking Scheme


In JEE-Advanced 2021, there were 4 sections of questions, MCQs, Numerical Answer type questions, multiple select questions, and non-negative integer answers. Check out the table mentioned below to understand further:


MCQ Type Questions Marking Scheme: -1 marks for an incorrect answer, +1 marks for the correct answer, 0 marks for each unanswered questions


Numerical Value Answer Questions: +2 for each right answer, O for incorrect or unanswered.


Multiple Select questions with one or more than one correct option: +4 for the right answer, +3 if all options are correct but the candidate has chosen only 3 correct options, +2 if 2 or more options are correct but the candidate has chosen only 2 correct options, +1 if 2 or more options are correct but candidate has chosen only 1 correct option and -2 for incorrect answer\


Non Negative Integer Answers: +4 for a correct answer, 0 for incorrect or unanswered.
